Like most software developers, Adobe maintains a list of system requirements for Photoshop and Lightroom that can be used to help ensure the hardware in your computer system will work with their software. However, most "system requirements" lists tend to cover only the very basics of what hardware is needed to run the software, not what hardware will actually give the best performance. The processor (or CPU) is one of the most important pieces of a Photoshop / Lightroom workstation. While GPU acceleration is gaining traction, right now your choice of CPU is usually going to make a much larger impact on overall system performance. However, be aware a CPU that is theoretically more powerful is not always better since there is a limit to the number of cores that Photoshop can effectively take advantage of. In many cases, spending more money can actually result in worse performance so it is more important to get the right CPU over a more expensive one.

However, most "system requirements" lists tend to cover only the very basics of what hardware is needed to run the software, not what hardware will actually give the best performance. However, the way that After Effects Premier Pro or Davinci uses the CPU means that it is difficult to be sure of how a given processor will perform just from looking at clock speed and core count - which is exactly why we perform testing on a wide range of hardware.

That makes a high frequency CPU, regardless of the core count, an ideal choice for these tasks. Our Design &amp; Animation workstation focuses on this type of workload.&nbsp;

Like most software developers, Autodesk maintains a list of system requirements for various versions of AutoCAD that can be used to help ensure the hardware in your system will work with AutoCAD. However, most "pc requirements" lists tend to cover the required hardware, not what hardware would actually give the best performance. When it comes to CPUs there are two main specifications that define the capability of a CPU:&nbsp; The frequency directly affects how many operations a single CPU core can complete in a second (how fast it is).&nbsp; The number of cores is how many physical cores there are within a CPU (how many operations it can run simultaneously).&nbsp; Whether a higher frequency or higher core count is faster depends on how well a program is designed to take advantage of multiple CPU cores. In the case of AutoCAD, the majority of the software is only single threaded so it is only able to utilize a single core of the CPU. For this reason, our general recommendation when choosing a processor is to get the highest frequency. For current generation CPUs, that is Intel's Core i9 12900K or i7 12700K, both of which offer high clock speeds alongside a good number of cores (for multitasking, etc).
